About the Provider
Dr. Robert K. Thompson was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He obtained a bachelor's degree in mathematics at Vanderbilt University in 1979, and his Medical Degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 1983. His residency in General Surgery first brought him to San Antonio in 1983 for five years, and he completed an additional fellowship in Vascular Surgery at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Thompson returned to San Antonio in 1990 to begin his private practice specializing in general vascular surgery at Northeast Baptist Hospital, where he later served as the hospital’s Chief of Staff.
In the last decade or so, Dr. Thompson has transitioned his focus in general vascular surgery to specializing entirely in the outpatient treatment of venous disease. Thanks to this transition, he has been able to treat patients of all ages who suffer from varicose veins using the latest minimally invasive techniques in the comfort of an office setting.
Dr. Thompson is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons, a member of the Society for Vascular Surgery, and is board certified in General Vascular Surgery. In his free time, Dr. Thompson enjoys hiking and biking with his wife and daughter, cooking, reading a good book and playing golf really poorly!
